Health & Safety Steps We're Taking


  • Members are required to wear a face covering (over their nose and mouth) upon entering and while exiting both the REC Center and Fitness Center or Dance Studio.
    • Members are NOT required to wear a face covering while exercising, however; you may wear one if you wish.
  • The Fitness Center has transformed its layout to ensure that all workout stations/equipment are a minimum of 6’ in distance from each other.
    • We have also implemented face shields in front of all cardio equipment to minimize direct forward exposure to particles caused by those utilizing the machines.
  • ​Members will be presented with a sanitizer spray bottle and a clean towel upon entering the Fitness Center to sanitize equipment (e.g., weights, treadmills, etc.) before and after use. This is required by all members.
  • Sweat towels will NOT be provided by HPD. Members may bring their own from home. Fitness Center staff will NOT launder personal towels.
  • Water fountains will NOT be available for use; however, our touchless bottle filler will be. We encourage all members to bring their own re-fillable water bottle for their workouts. We will NOT provide water bottles.
  • A sanitation station will be available upon entering the building and hand sanitizer will be available upon entering and exiting the fitness center.

  • Main walkways through the fitness center will be one-way and will be depicted with arrows to keep a simplified flow of traffic and less/minimized paths to cross with other members.
  • Members should arrive at our facility dressed in workout attire. See Locker Room information below.
  • Members should maintain 6-ft. of distance during exercise.
  • Equipment should not be shared between members at the same time unless from the same household.


  • Fitness staff will wear face coverings and gloves at all times.
  • Fitness staff will maintain a minimum of 6' of distance between themselves and members  and/or other HPD staff.
  • Fitness staff will sanitize and refill each sanitation spray bottle used by each member.
  • Fitness staff will deep clean various sections of equipment/touch points in the fitness center on an hourly basis.
  • Fitness staff will launder all sanitation and sweat towels regularly.
  • Fitness staff will monitor Fitness Center floor and encourage safe practices.
  • Fitness staff will clean and sanitize all equipment after use by members in Group Exercise classes, regularly. 

Locker Rooms/Kids' Club

Locker Rooms

  • Locker rooms and showers will be closed until further notice. If you are currently renting a locker with us and wish to retrieve your personal belongings, please email Matt Szytz at mszytz@huntleyparks.org to schedule a time for us to help you empty your locker.

​Kids' Club

  • Kids’ Club will remain closed until further notice. We are currently assessing the need and hours for the service and are re-evaluating for the month of July.
  • If you have questions and/or concerns regarding Kids’ Club, please email Matt Szytz at mszytz@huntleyparks.org.

Group Exercise

  • To maintain a safe environment for members, employees, and other program participants, all group exercise classes will take place outdoors for the remainder of the summer (July through August). Due to classes being outdoors, we will be able to accommodate more participants per class, more classes per week, and schedule classes at more reasonable times.
  • We have implemented a new system for members to sign up and reserve class spots. Under the new guidelines, our classes may not exceed 49 participants and 1 instructor. Our new system is through the website SignUpGenius. You will be emailed a link to the sign-up portal, which you will be asked to create a free account in order to use. Once created, you will be able to use SignUpGenius to reserve a spot in any class you choose.
  • The group exercise schedule through October 3 has been released. View that schedule here.
  • We will NOT be allowing daily passes/drop-ins to Group Exercise classes. It will be strictly members only until further notice. Reserving a spot via SignUpGenius is REQUIRED by all participants taking classes.
  • Water will only be available in our facility via our hands-free bottle filler, which will require members to bring their own bottle. The Huntley Park District will not provide bottles.
  • All classes will meet in the South Parking Lot of the Huntley Park District. This is the parking lot South of the REC Center and North of the small pond and Stingray Bay baseball fields.
  • Members will meet with their instructor and other participants before following procedures to select the sanitized equipment they will need for that day's class. 
  • When possible, we ask that members please bring their own equipment. It is highly recommended to bring a personal yoga mat/floor mat/blanket/towel/etc. for exercises that take place on the ground.


  • 6' must be maintained between all participants and instructor.
  • Face masks are NOT required to be worn by participants if physical distance is maintained.
  • Instructors will always have a mask with them but are not required to wear it unless 6' of physical distance cannot be maintained.
  • Equipment will NOT be shared.
  • All equipment used will have been sanitized prior to and after its use.


  • Stay up to date with decisions on classes based on weather by visiting our Weather page or download the RainoutLine app! If a class is cancelled due to rain, it will NOT be made up and there will not be any indoor rainout locations available.
  • In the case that a class is cancelled, all members are encouraged to utilize the Fitness Center for the day's workout.
