Huntley, IL -  Andrew’s Assist is proud to dedicate Huntley’s first two SaveStations each containing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be available for public use 24/7 in the event of a heart emergency.  Andrew’s Assist teamed up with the Huntley Park District and Save Station to install the stations in two locations at Tomaso Park.  One is located on the walkway between the baseball and softball fields.  The other is in the parking lot next to the soccer fields.

Andrew’s Assist was established to honor the life and legacy of Andrew Fulcer who died suddenly and unexpectedly after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in May 2022.  We are dedicated to increasing survival rates among young people suffering sudden cardiac arrest.  In the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, bystander intervention is critical for saving lives.  Members of the public must know what an AED is for, be able to locate one and feel empowered to know when to use it to take lifesaving action even if they have no training.  The public needs access, awareness and education.  The media are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the two new outdoor, 24/7 public access.

Dedication Event Details:

  • Date & Time:  Saturday, June 7th @ 9:45 AM
  • Location: Tomaso Sports Park 11950 Ackman Rd, Huntley, IL 60142
  • Activities: SaveStation Dedication & Ribbon cutting, CPR/AED Demos;
  • Photo/Interview Opportunities: Family, Park District Reps, Local Government Reps, and EMS Reps

About the SaveStation Towers

SaveStation® was created to ensure life-saving AEDs are accessible anytime, anywhere.  An AED is a portable, batter-operated device that a bystander can use.  It checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm.  The SaveStation towers are lit, highly visible, weather-resistant, climate-controlled units that house any AED brand on the market, offering instant public access. When opened, the alarmed and monitored SaveStation® alerts others that help is needed and provides easy-to-follow instructions for the public.

About Sudden Cardiac Arrest & AED Intervention:

-Bystanders save lives using AEDs/defibrillators for cardiac arrest.  Most out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA) occur in public settings (18.8%) or homes/residences (69.5%).

- People are more likely to survive cardiac arrest if a bystander provides CPR and uses a defibrillator while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.

-Quickly shocking the heart with an AED can save a person’s life during cardiac arrest.  Experts estimate that each year more than 18,000 Americans have shockable cardiac arrest outside of a hospital that occurs in public with witnesses.

-Currently about 9 in 10 people who have cardiac arrest outside the hospital die.  But CPR can improve those odds.  If it is performed in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, CPR can double or triple a person’s chance for survival.
