Huntley Park District Receives Over Half a Million in State Grants for Weiss Park Renovations


Huntley, IL – January 30, 2024 – The Huntley Park District is thrilled to announce the notification of award for a $509,500 grant from the State of Illinois' Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program as announced by the Governor’s Office today. This significant award will fund half of the cost for the upcoming renovation of Weiss Park.

Scott Crowe, the Executive Director of Huntley Park District, expressed his excitement: "This generous grant from the OSLAD program marks a transformative step for our community. The renovation of Weiss Park is not just an upgrade of facilities; it's a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all our residents. The new playground, zip line, paved walking paths, and other amenities will provide diverse recreational opportunities for people of all ages."

Keith Wold, the Board President, also shared his gratitude: "We are deeply thankful for the support of our residents, the State of Illinois, our local representatives, and community partners. This collaboration is a testament to what we can achieve together. The new Weiss Park will be a location for community engagement and outdoor activities." 

 The renovation plan includes a new playground, a zip line feature, paved walking paths, enhanced skate park amenities, and a basketball court. Additionally, the gazebo will be refurbished, baseball diamond backstops replaced, and the bathroom facilities will be updated with vandal-resistant fixtures. 

 The project has received substantial support from our residents through surveys and engagement at public input meetings.  Other local organizations including the Village of Huntley, State Representative Joe Sosnoski, State Senator Dave Syverson, Northwestern Medicine Huntley, Amazon, the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce, Huntley Park Foundation, Citius Illinois Baseball, Huntley Rotary Club, and the McHenry County Health Department.  

The Huntley Park District is committed to providing exceptional recreational spaces and services, and the Weiss Park renovation is a significant milestone in this ongoing effort.
