Pioneer Center for Human Services and NISRA (Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association) are proud to announce their new partnership and the

creation of the Bright Program, opening in fall 2021 in Huntley. This terrific program serves adults with developmental disabilities over the age of 22 on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Bright Program is located in the Huntley Park District’s Deicke Park facility at 11419 S. IL Route 47. The program focuses on personal development through case management, community connections, and the targeted development of personal independence. Program activities and outings are based on the interests of the participants, and focus on recreation and leisure, community integration, socialization, self-esteem, independent living skills, and health and wellness.

“A typical day will offer unique opportunities for participants to engage in multiple community outings,” explained Renee Stoklosa, Pioneer Center Day Program Manager. “This will include the utilization of park district facilities, as well as structured programming focusing on social and life skills.”

Pioneer Center and NISRA both have a long and successful history of creating enrichment, independence, and inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. The partnership brings much-needed community-based services to Huntley and the southwestern area of McHenry County. “NISRA and Pioneer staff are passionate about the Bright Program,” said DJ Newport, Pioneer Center Director of IDD Services. “We’ll provide a wonderful experience to all those we serve.”

Important funding from the McHenry County Mental Health Board and the Community Foundation for McHenry County supported the start-up of the program. Future funding will come from program fees, state funding, and private donations.
