Stingray Bay Update 6/14/21 at (2:00 PM)

Stingray Bay Aquatic Center will continue to be closed for about one more week.  We are hopeful this will be resolved and the pool will be re-opened by Monday, June 21. While we want to communicate this realistic timeline, there is the possibility it could be longer.  This is the best information we have on the situation at this time.

Stingray Bay was closed on Friday, June 11 due to an unexpected mechanical failure the previous night.  Two of the three main pool pumps that circulate the water through the pool, the filters, and the heater failed. Without these, the pool cannot provide enough filtration, heat, or sanitization to allow people to swim safely.  These pumps are no longer manufactured so they must be made from scratch.  The original pool engineer, and builders of the pool, are working diligently to prepare the space ahead of time for installation, complete the proper documents required for the design, and prepare the plumbing fixtures accordingly so as soon as the pumps are received, they will be ready to be installed quickly.  Once the proper chemical levels and temperature are achieved, the pool will re-open.

The following updates still apply and have been updated as of Monday, June 14:

  1. All swim programs are cancelled until the pool reopens.  Once a reopening date is determined, information will be provided directly to customers in these programs about whether make-ups and/or credits/refunds will be offered.
  2. All in-water swim team practices are cancelled until further notice.  Dryland practices are being held and coaches have communicated this change already.  Tuesday night’s swim meet has been moved to the opposing team’s pool.  Swim Team participants will get more information directly from their coaches as the situation progresses.
  3. We expect this situation to be resolved in a reasonable amount of time and with the majority of the pool season still ahead of us, refunds for pass holders are not a consideration at this time.  As a reminder, pool passes typically pay off in about 7-8 visits.
  4. If you had a party or a group booked, staff will be in touch with you to identify a make-up date or refund your event.

Huntley Park District will plan to provide another update by the afternoon of Friday, June 18, or sooner if things progress quicker than expected.  Thank you for your patience and support as we work to reopen the pool as quickly as possible.
