Teen Dances
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
So your son or daughter has come home excited about the next teen dance; great! We're sure you have lots of questions if it's their first time, so read on to find out everything you'd want to know about our teen dances!
I don't know much about the dances. When is it, where is it held, and how much money should I give my child?
All of our dances are held in the Cosman Cultural Center located through the main REC Center entrance, with our concessions held in the adjoining dance studio. Dances are held from 7 pm to 9 pm, and cost $6 with ID, $8 without (Easiest way is to give your child one dollar bills, it makes our job of giving out change and getting kids into the dance much easier!). Feel free to send your child with whatever money you deem appropriate for concessions. Most parents send their child with $5 for concessions for the evening. Please do not drop off before 6:30 pm! Any child on the premises not picked up by 9:30 pm will be asked to not return to any teen dances.
This is my child's first big social event outside of school. What can my child expect?
They can expect a clean, safe atmosphere with one of the best DJ's in the area. While the hottest music is played on the dance floor the concessions room has snacks and drinks, as well as foosball and air hockey for those wanting a more relaxing atmosphere away from the main dance floor.
What's the best way to get my child there? How will I find him/her after the dance? Carpool if you can! All of our attendees will be allowed to leave into the parking lot after the dance is over at 9:00 pm, with assigned chaperones and adult supervision directing traffic to make sure that you find your child easily.
I'm concerned about supervison. Will there be chaperones?
All of our dances are chaperoned by adult park district employees.
I'd still like to be sure about what's going on. Can I come inside? We invite any parent to come inside and see the dance for themselves. We do ask that parents only stay for a few minutes, however, as the dance is for the kids and we have to enforce our own adult chaperone employee policy for the safety of the kids.
I want to be sure of what my child is listening to. What kind of music is played?
Our DJ plays any modern music appropriate for the age group that is played on the radio and on the top 100 charts.
My child mentioned there's food sold, what kind of concessions are offered?
We offer many kinds of soda, water, chips, candy, and glow necklaces at our concession stand for only $1.00. The list changes each month depeding on demand but the usuals are reesee's peanut butter cups, snickers, twix, sour patch straws, pepsi, mountain dew, sprite, and bottled water.
I know my child may have friends coming as well, but how many kids attend, and from where?
Throughout the year the Huntley Park District teen dances bring an average of 300-400 kids each dance for those attending 6th - 8th grade. All of our attendees are either from District 158 or Huntley Park District residents attending another educational institution.
Something may come up or we have plans already, what if my child needs to leave early?
Any child who leaves early may only be allowed to leave the building before 9:00 if a parent comes inside to pick the child up. No children will be allowed to leave without the parent inside the REC Center before 9:00 pm.
